Kat & Jamie's wedding day was filled with warmth from beginning to end. The River Thames shimmered in the autumn sunshine, Greenwich's historic waterfront provided a timeless backdrop, and the character of Trafalgar Tavern made every part of the celebration feel welcoming and full of atmosphere.
Throughout the day I quietly documented the story as it happened—from the anticipation before the ceremony and laughter shared between generations, to relaxed riverside portraits and an unforgettable sunset on the pebble shore beside the Thames. Every photograph reflects the joy, connection and personality that made this wedding uniquely theirs.
Arrivals and Ceremony — Light, Laughter, and the Thames Beyond
The day began with a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere at the Trafalgar Tavern. Family and friends greeted one another with warm hugs and easy conversation as the soft October sunshine reflected across the River Thames. There was no sense of rush—just calm anticipation, smiling faces, and the excitement of everyone coming together for Kat & Jamie's wedding.
Inside the historic venue, Jamie waited quietly while guests settled into their seats. Every now and then, the couple's young son stole the show with his own little moments of curiosity and charm, bringing laughter to family and friends before the ceremony had even begun. These natural interactions are often the moments that become the most treasured memories of the day.
The Wedding Ceremony — Natural Light, Genuine Emotion and a Beautiful Beginning
The ceremony took place in Trafalgar Tavern's beautiful light-filled room overlooking the River Thames, where natural daylight streamed through the large windows to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Family and friends settled quietly into their seats as anticipation gave way to smiles when Kat made her entrance.
Wearing a beautifully distinctive wedding dress that perfectly reflected her personality as the editor of a fashion magazine, Kat brought effortless style to the ceremony without ever overshadowing its warmth. Every glance, smile and embrace felt completely natural, making it a joy to photograph both in colour and timeless black and white.
A close friend discreetly filmed the ceremony from the corner of the room while two heartfelt readings added even more meaning to the occasion. From the first kiss to signing the register beside the elegant bay window, every part of the ceremony unfolded with genuine emotion and quiet happiness.
My approach throughout was simply to observe. Using the beautiful natural light already filling the room, I documented real moments rather than directing them—preserving authentic memories exactly as they happened for Kat, Jamie and everyone who shared their day.
After the Ceremony — Family, Laughter and the Thames Light
As congratulations filled the room, family and friends gathered for hugs, laughter and a chance to celebrate together. The elegant white walls and paintings of Trafalgar Tavern created a wonderfully simple backdrop for relaxed family photographs, allowing every smile and interaction to remain the focus.
Once everyone had enjoyed time together, we wandered outside into the crisp October afternoon. With the River Thames beside us and the magnificent buildings of the Old Royal Naval College rising beyond, Kat & Jamie embraced the riverside breeze as we explored the surroundings for a series of natural portraits.
Greenwich offers beautiful variety within just a few minutes' walk. From the historic stone arches to quiet riverside paths, every location complemented their relaxed personalities without ever feeling staged. Rather than directing every movement, I simply encouraged them to enjoy a few moments together while documenting the genuine connection, laughter and quiet conversations that followed the ceremony.
The Wedding Breakfast — Personal Touches, Candlelight and Laughter
The wedding breakfast at Trafalgar Tavern reflected Kat & Jamie's personalities perfectly. Guests were welcomed by vintage photo frames displayed on the piano, each thoughtfully arranged with table plans that guided everyone to their seats. Nearby, a colourful collection of wedding cakes in soft shades of yellow, orange, blue and pink stood on individual cake stands, adding another playful detail to the room.
As the evening approached, I noticed the most beautiful sunset developing over the River Thames. Before the speeches began, I quietly borrowed Kat & Jamie for a few minutes and wandered down to the pebble shore outside Trafalgar Tavern, where we created a relaxed set of sunset couple portraits overlooking the river. It was one of those unexpected moments that couldn't be planned but became one of the highlights of the day.
Back inside, the atmosphere became warm and intimate as the speeches unfolded by candlelight, creating a beautiful setting for genuine reactions, laughter and a few emotional moments. One of the highlights came from the groomsmen, whose light-hearted photo montage had the entire room laughing while successfully embarrassing the groom.
Rather than directing events, I photographed these moments as they happened naturally—capturing the conversations between guests, quiet smiles across the tables, spontaneous laughter, and all the small candid moments that tell the complete story of a wedding day.
The Evening Reception — Music, Dancing and Real Moments
As evening settled over Trafalgar Tavern, the celebrations gathered pace. More guests arrived to join the party as Kat & Jamie cut their colourful wedding cakes, surrounded by smiles, applause and plenty of laughter. One of my favourite moments followed soon afterwards, as the bride and her mum paused for an informal photograph together — a simple, genuine memory that meant far more than any carefully arranged pose.
The live band soon filled the room, drawing family and friends onto the dance floor and creating the relaxed, joyful atmosphere that carried everyone through the rest of the evening. These are often the moments couples remember least clearly on the day itself, which is why quietly documenting them becomes so important.
Their first dance took place in the most beautiful natural light, exactly as the room looked and felt that evening. I never wanted to overpower moments like these with intrusive lighting or heavy manipulation. Instead, I photographed the atmosphere as it unfolded, preserving the warmth, emotion and character of the room just as everyone experienced it.
For me, this is where wedding photography becomes more than creating beautiful pictures. It's where real memories are preserved—not manufactured—allowing couples to look back and remember not only how their wedding looked, but exactly how it felt.
Looking back through Kat & Jamie's wedding, I'm reminded just how much the day was shaped by its people and its setting. From the warm October sunshine on the banks of the River Thames to the candlelit speeches, colourful celebrations and unforgettable sunset on the pebble shore, every chapter unfolded naturally and became part of a story that could never be repeated.
Travelling across the UK to photograph weddings like this is one of the greatest privileges of my work. Every couple, every family and every place has its own character, and meeting so many wonderful people is something I never take for granted.
