Mitton Hall Wedding Photography — Nicola & Mike's March Wedding Story

Nicola & Mike asked for a completely documentary approach for their Mitton Hall wedding in Clitheroe — no posed photos, no formal groups, just the day exactly as it unfolded. And honestly, it suited them perfectly.

From the cosy ceremony in the old side of the Hall, with everyone gathered on sofas and chairs, to Nicola’s striking red dress and the constant laughter that followed, everything felt relaxed, real, and full of personality.

Even without traditional portraits, we still found a few quiet moments — a Reservoir Dogs-style walk with Mike and his sons, and some natural couple frames by the piano outside the wedding breakfast room. During the meal, I gathered each table for simple, candid “table groups”, a lovely alternative to formal family photos.

Every one of those frames ended up in their GraphStudio storybook — a true reflection of their informal, joy-filled day, documentary style.

Preparation at Mitton Hall

A calm March morning at Mitton Hall — a little chilly outside, warm and cosy inside the bridal suite. Nicola’s red dress hanging beside the four-poster, gold heels by the fireplace, friends chatting, hair and makeup unfolding naturally. She even helped a friend with makeup, a perfect start to this relaxed, documentary day. Downstairs, Mike mixed with family and friends in the honey-warm light of the Hall.

The Old Side of Mitton Hall: Ceremony Room & Bar

Before the ceremony, just one requested photo — a Reservoir Dogs-style frame of Mike and his sons. The only posed moment of the day. Guests enjoyed pre-ceremony drinks in the rustic old bar, everyone relaxed and chatting while the registrars spoke with Mike. A warm, characterful space that suits natural storytelling photography perfectly.

The Ceremony at Mitton Hall

Guests settled into sofas and armchairs, creating an intimate, low-light atmosphere in the old side of Mitton Hall. From the balcony came Nicola — and a playful toss of Everton Mints — setting the tone for a fun, personal ceremony. Quiet glances, laughter, and the register signed beside the stone fireplace, witnessed lovingly by their sons.

After the Ceremony: Drinks & Mingling

Champagne flowed as family and friends gathered around the couple. From the balcony, the scene below looked cinematic — pockets of laughter, hugs, the soft buzz of a relaxed celebration. Candid moments everywhere, all unfolding naturally.

Unposed Couple Portraits by the Piano

As Nicola & Mike waited by the piano before being called into the wedding breakfast, the light fell beautifully. Without direction, without interruption, a few timeless frames appeared — portraits that look posed, yet were completely unposed. Pure documentary in the quietest moments.

The Wedding Breakfast

They didn’t want any formal groups, so I created gentle “table groups”: each table gathered naturally on one side—some seated, some stood. Simple, relaxed, and perfect for storytelling albums. Every image made its way into their GraphStudio storybook. Speeches brought emotion, humour, and some brilliant reactions.

The Evening Reception

I stayed to capture the start of the evening — guests arriving, the warm glow settling in, and an adult magician sparking laughter across the room. A fun, easy-going ending to a beautifully relaxed Mitton Hall wedding day.

Closing Thoughts

Nicola & Mike’s wedding at Mitton Hall was everything they hoped for — relaxed, real, and completely unposed. The day unfolded at its own pace, full of personality, warmth, and moments that didn’t need shaping or direction.

From the intimate ceremony to the quiet in-between scenes that followed, it was a celebration rooted in honesty — a reminder of how powerful candid storytelling can be when the focus stays firmly on the people and the place. See more Destination weddings.
