Gemma & Danny’s Late Summer Wedding at Leeds Civic Hall and The Lost & Found Leeds Club

Photographing weddings across Leeds and Yorkshire has never felt like work to me, I love photography! This late summer day at Leeds Civic Hall was something else. As you can already see in the first photo – the most amazing deep blue cloudless sky which lasted all day. I enjoyed a sunny walk to the millennium square from my home in Kirkstall that Tuesday morning.

An intimate wedding in the West Room at Leeds Civic Hall – Gemma & Danny’s wedding was full of emotion and love. Later, a moment to breathe at ‘Be at One’ Bar on the edge of millennium square – We stopped for a quick drink before joining everyone already waiting at the Lost & Found Leeds Club. One of the photos I took made the cover of their GraphiStudio Storybook.

Into a taxi and then a short walk to the club. The photos en-route and just outside the club turned out to be favourites too – you’ll see below. So not to give away the whole story, Lost & Found Leeds Club was perfect for a few group photos and an intimate wedding breakfast in the Boardroom upstairs.

The Civic Hall, Leeds — Grand, Iconic, and Full of Heart

Leeds Civic Hall is one of the city’s most iconic wedding venues — a place where striking white stone, golden owls, and timeless architecture meet real, human stories. It’s grand and full of character, yet it never overshadows what truly matters: the people, the emotions, and the small, unscripted moments that make every wedding unique.

As a documentary-style wedding photographer based in Leeds, I’m always drawn to those quiet in-between moments — the glances, the laughter, the nervous smiles — the things that happen naturally when you forget the camera is there. My approach is simple and honest: no tricks, no forced posing, just photography that feels real and true to the day.

Even surrounded by the Civic Hall’s impressive scale and history, Gemma & Danny’s wedding felt deeply personal — full of warmth, joy, and connection. And that’s exactly what I love about photographing here: no matter how grand the setting, it always comes back to the people and the story they create together.

An Intimate Wedding Ceremony at Leeds Civic Hall, Overlooking Millennium Square

Gemma and Danny chose to keep things beautifully simple — close family, a handful of dear friends, and a setting filled with meaning. Their intimate ceremony at Leeds Civic Hall was full of warmth and emotion, the kind of celebration that proves small weddings can still carry enormous heart.

From Gemma’s relieved “phew” as she reached Danny, to the proud smiles and gentle glances they shared, nothing felt staged or rehearsed. It was just two people, completely themselves, surrounded by love in one of the city’s most iconic spaces.

As a candid Leeds wedding photographer, I don’t follow a strict shot list or try to orchestrate the day. I let moments unfold naturally — and that’s when the real magic happens. One of the most touching scenes came as Danny’s young son, overwhelmed with emotion, wrapped his arms tightly around his dad as they left the ceremony, with Gemma smiling softly by his side.

It’s moments like these — real, fleeting, deeply human — that tell the true story of a wedding day. And they’re exactly the kind of memories I love to capture, honestly and without interruption.

Leeds Civic Hall Wedding Photographer — Documentary Style

I’ve photographed several weddings at Leeds Civic Hall, and no two have ever been the same. Each one carries its own rhythm, its own light, its own small moments that make it unforgettable. Still, they all share something familiar — that sense of warmth that fills the space from the moment guests start arriving.

The sunlight here has a character of its own — soft yet brilliant, bouncing off the grand white stone and flooding Millennium Square in gold. It moves across the steps as the day unfolds, catching laughter, confetti, and the quiet pride in the faces of family and friends.

That’s what I love most about photographing at Leeds Civic Hall. Every story feels timeless, yet completely individual. My approach is always calm and unobtrusive — to let things happen naturally, without direction or interference. When I photograph here, I’m not trying to control the day; I’m simply watching, waiting, and capturing what’s real.

The joy, the light, the tiny gestures that would otherwise pass unseen — those are the frames that last.

Wedding Portraits at Leeds Civic Hall and Millennium Square

The sun stayed high above Millennium Square all day — the kind of golden September light you dream of for a city wedding. I never hide couples from the light; I embrace it. Sunshine brings honesty and energy into every frame, and it suited Gemma perfectly. Even her sunflower bouquet felt like a quiet reflection of the day itself — bright, joyful, and full of life.

We began their portraits on the grand steps of Leeds Civic Hall, four trees framing the scene and Leeds Town Hall rising softly in the distance. No filters, no staging — just real colour, real warmth, and the story as it truly unfolded.

For me, this is what wedding photography at Leeds Civic Hall is all about — keeping things honest, joyful, and full of natural connection. One of my favourite moments from Gemma and Danny’s day came as they leaned together over a street piano — part of the Leeds Piano Festival — heads close, laughing in the sunshine.

It’s those unexpected scenes, tucked between the grand buildings and open sky, that remind me why I love photographing weddings in this city. Each one feels deeply personal, full of character, and completely unique.

Leeds Civic Hall Wedding — In the Heart of the City

Set right in the heart of Leeds, the Civic Hall is always a joy to photograph — and it made the perfect backdrop for Gemma and Danny’s joyful city wedding. With its golden owls, sweeping steps, and light-filled rooms, it carries a real sense of occasion, yet still feels warm and welcoming when filled with the people who matter most.

As a Leeds city-centre wedding photographer, I always love returning here. On days like this — blue skies above, laughter in the air, and so much love in every frame — Leeds Civic Hall feels every bit as alive as the people who gather within it.

Early Evening Moments and a Perfect Finish at The Lost & Found Leeds Club

By the time we arrived at The Lost & Found Leeds Club, the champagne was already flowing and the atmosphere felt effortless. I moved quietly through the room, capturing laughter, hugs, and the small in-between moments that tell the real story — never staged, just people at ease in one of Leeds’ most beautiful city wedding venues.

Upstairs, the reception space looked timeless, waiting to welcome everyone in. A little later, we stepped outside for a relaxed family photo on the front steps — the September light had softened into gold, wrapping everything in warmth. One of my favourite frames came on the grand staircase: no posing, no fuss, just instinct and connection.

As evening settled in, the pace slowed. Guests found their seats, conversations drifted through the air, and my final frame of the night came quietly — their young son, head resting on the table, tired but happy after a day full of love and laughter.

It’s these closing scenes that stay with me — the calm after celebration, the beauty in real emotion, the moments that remind me why I love photographing weddings here in Leeds.

Gemma and Danny’s day was everything I love about photographing weddings at Leeds Civic Hall — full of warmth, colour, and connection. Having worked here several times, I’ve learned how beautifully this building adapts, from small weekday ceremonies to full celebrations that spill out onto Millennium Square.

The golden owls, the soft light through the tall windows, and the laughter echoing between the columns all create something timeless. Whether it’s a quiet “I do” or a day filled with friends and sunshine, Leeds Civic Hall always feels alive with story.
