A Beautiful Summer Wedding at Oulton Hall

Vikki & Jevan’s Oulton Hall Hotel Wedding Photography

Oulton Hall is one of Yorkshire’s most iconic wedding venues — grand yet welcoming, with elegant interiors, beautiful gardens and space to celebrate in every season. For summer weddings especially, it feels full of light and atmosphere, making it a wonderful place for natural wedding photography.

Vikki & Jevan’s wedding at Oulton Hall was filled with warmth, laughter and so many relaxed moments shared with family and friends. From the ceremony through to portraits in the grounds and the evening celebrations, the whole day had an effortless warmth to it.

I photographed their day in my usual documentary style — quietly capturing the real moments as they unfolded, from the big celebrations to the small in-between moments that often become the most meaningful memories.

Morning Preparations at Oulton Hall

The day began in the bridal suite at Oulton Hall with a soft summer warmth in the air. Although the sun stayed behind the clouds, the atmosphere felt bright and calm — the kind of light that settles gently into a room and lets everything breathe.

Vikki’s daughter stole the show more than once during the morning preparations, bringing so much energy and joy to the room. Surrounded by her bridesmaids, there was plenty of laughter, quiet help with the finishing touches, and those small moments that always become some of my favourites to photograph.

Soft window light poured through the sash windows, giving everything a natural softness. I photographed the morning as it unfolded — makeup brushes laid out, quick glances across the room, moments between mother and daughter, and a little twirl by the mirror that captured all the excitement of being part of a wedding day.

One of the highlights for me was seeing Vikki and her daughter ready together, bouquet in hand and petal basket at the ready. It felt like one of those quiet moments where everything pauses for a second. Seeing Vikki’s dad arrive and take in the moment before she walked to the ceremony was incredibly special too — full of pride, happiness and anticipation.

The Wedding Ceremony at Oulton Hall Hotel & Spa

There was a lovely sense of anticipation before the ceremony began at Oulton Hall. Vikki’s daughter led the procession down the grand staircase with a huge smile, while a few nerves quietly showed among everyone waiting below.

Before the ceremony started, I slipped into the ceremony room to photograph Jevan with his two best men as guests arrived and took their seats. There was a relaxed atmosphere throughout — smiles across the room, quiet conversations, and that familiar sense of excitement just before everything begins.

Then came the entrance of the flower girl and page boy, both full of joy, followed by the bridesmaids and finally Vikki walking in with her father. It was an emotional moment, full of warmth, and one of those arrivals where the whole room feels lifted.

Once the ceremony began, the nerves naturally faded and the day seemed to settle into place. Vikki and Jevan were all smiles as they exchanged vows, and by the time they shared their first kiss, everything felt relaxed and full of happiness.

After signing the register, we moved straight into a few family photographs before the couple made their way back outside to congratulations from their guests and the celebrations continuing across Oulton Hall.

A Champagne Welcome, Congratulations & Portraits at Oulton Hall

As Vikki and Jevan stepped out from the ceremony, they were welcomed with champagne, hugs and congratulations from every direction. It was one of those lovely moments where everything feels joyful and a little unstructured — guests gathering around, glasses being raised, and everyone wanting a moment with the newly married couple.

With so many children there throughout the day, it felt especially relaxed and full of life. Families came together, friends caught up, and the celebrations had that wonderful energy that makes a wedding feel genuinely shared across generations.

We then stepped out in front of Oulton Hall for a few portraits together. The happiness between Vikki and Jevan was immediate and easy to photograph — full of smiles, laughter and that just-married excitement that carries through the afternoon.

The front of Oulton Hall makes such a striking backdrop for portraits. We spent a few quiet minutes on the red carpet beneath the grand façade before moving to the steps for wider photographs that brought in the scale and elegance of the hall itself.

From there we made our way around the grounds for a few more relaxed portraits by the water, using the reflections and soft light before heading back for the full group photograph. The celebrations finished with rose petal confetti filling the air around Vikki and Jevan — a perfect burst of colour and happiness before everyone returned inside.

The Wedding Breakfast at Oulton Hall Hotel

Before guests were called through for the wedding breakfast, I stepped back inside to photograph some of the details that had been carefully brought together throughout the day. One of my favourites was the memory board titled Jevan & Vikki’s Wedding — full of photographs and personal touches that added even more meaning to the celebration.

In the drinks reception, guests gathered with a chance to pause and enjoy the afternoon together. There was a lovely calm to this part of the day — people chatting, children weaving between conversations, and everyone relaxing into the celebrations. One of the joys of a wedding at Oulton Hall is how everything unfolds in one place, allowing the day to feel unhurried and easy from start to finish.

Vikki and Jevan moved through the room with huge smiles, spending time with family and friends while enjoying a few quieter moments together between the celebrations. Those in-between conversations are always some of my favourite moments to photograph — natural, unposed and full of warmth.

Soon everyone made their way into the wedding breakfast room and took their seats, waiting for the couple’s entrance. The atmosphere was full of anticipation, laughter and applause as Vikki and Jevan were welcomed in to begin the next part of the day.

Their cake stood beside the sash window, beautifully lit by the soft afternoon light, with delicate pastel tones coming through in the details. Throughout the meal there were plenty of smiles, laughter and little interactions happening across the room — all those fleeting moments that make the wedding breakfast such a joy to capture before the speeches began.

Into the Evening Reception at Oulton Hall Hotel & Spa

As the day moved into the evening, we took a little time for more portraits around Oulton Hall. Couple photographs often feel different depending on the time of day, and by early evening everything had softened — the pace, the light and the atmosphere around the venue.

We spent a few quiet moments together on the grand staircase and through the hallways, where the calm between Vikki and Jevan really came through. There was a lovely ease to being with them — natural conversation, a little laughter, and those unspoken moments that say everything without needing direction.

We then stepped outside onto the putting green for a few more portraits, bringing in the wider setting of Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. It gave a lovely sense of place to the photographs, with the grounds opening out around them before the evening celebrations began.

Back inside, the evening reception was already full of energy. The illuminated LOVE sign glowed beside the dance floor, while the youngest guests were the first to take over the space — bringing plenty of fun long before the music properly began.

Vikki and Jevan made their entrance to a huge welcome before cutting the cake beneath the lights, with the LOVE sign glowing behind them. Their first dance followed soon after, drawing everyone onto the floor and filling the room with movement, laughter and celebration — a brilliant ending to a beautiful summer wedding at Oulton Hall.

Closing Thoughts

Vikki & Jevan’s summer wedding at Oulton Hall felt beautifully relaxed from beginning to end. Everything seemed to move with an easy rhythm — from the quiet moments in the morning through to the celebrations later in the evening — with the venue creating a natural sense of flow around the whole day.

Oulton Hall has a real presence to it. Originally built as an eighteenth-century country house, it carries so much Yorkshire history within its walls, yet still feels warm and welcoming rather than formal. The grand architecture, open grounds and soft summer light all come together in a way that gives weddings there a calm elegance without ever feeling overdone.

One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at Oulton Hall is how effortlessly the day unfolds. There’s space to breathe, space for guests to relax, and beautiful corners everywhere for natural moments to happen without interruption. It allows the story of the day to unfold gently and honestly.

As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, it’s always a pleasure returning to venues like Oulton Hall — places full of character, history and atmosphere, but also full of life. Vikki & Jevan’s day was joyful, warm and incredibly easy to photograph, and it was a real privilege to capture it all.
