Alison & Liam — A Warm Autumn Wedding at Bolton Priory and The Devonshire Arms
It was an early autumn day that still held the warmth of summer — golden light filtering through trees just beginning to turn. Alison and Liam’s wedding was quietly joyful and deeply connected, set against two of Yorkshire’s most beautiful venues.
The ceremony took place at the iconic Bolton Priory, a place that needs no filter — just a patient eye and a steady hand to capture the perfect moments. Later, the celebration moved to The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa, where laughter and champagne spilled onto the lawn as the sun dipped behind rolling hills.
I loved capturing their story as it naturally unfolded — no stiff posing, no pressure — just real people and genuine moments, beautifully framed by Yorkshire’s timeless landscapes.

Getting Ready at The Devonshire Arms — Quiet Anticipation and Family Moments
In the calm morning light at The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa, everything felt gently expectant. The little bridesmaids posed proudly in dresses trimmed with pink ribbons and lace — their silk skirts brushing the carpet as they helped adjust the bride’s train, all smiles and excitement.
Already in her gown, the bride stood tall — the soft lace of her bodice and the smooth satin fall of her dress catching the morning light. A warm, gentle energy filled the room.
There was a quiet joy as close family gathered: a soft hug from Mum, a few relaxed portraits with the bride’s son and his girlfriend, and the steady rhythm of wedding morning rituals unfolding at their own pace. These were the kinds of moments I love to capture — natural, layered, and full of quiet connection.

A Pause Before the Ceremony
Downstairs at The Devonshire Arms, guests mingled beneath the warm wooden ceilings — a soft buzz of conversation and glasses clinking.
In the same elegant space, I captured a quiet portrait of the groom with his two sons. Just a few relaxed frames, full of pride and warmth.
Then a quick step outside — the three of them laughing beside the wedding car in the sunshine — before I returned upstairs for one final detail: the bride’s bouquet resting on the window ledge, its rich reds and creams catching the soft natural light. A last still moment before the Priory.

The Ceremony at Bolton Priory
There’s something timeless about the grandeur of Bolton Priory — even under a soft grey sky, the stonework and stillness hold a calm kind of beauty. As a Leeds wedding photographer, I always find moments of quiet magic in this setting.
Inside, the groom welcomed guests with warm smiles and handshakes, surrounded by the gentle buzz of anticipation.
Sunlight appeared just in time. The bride arrived with her son, both looking proud and full of joy. As the choir began, she made her way through the great doorway, greeted by music and emotion.
The ceremony felt quietly elegant — a few exchanged glances, the softest laugh during the vows, a happy flurry as the rings went on. Their first kiss came with a cheer and a few happy tears nearby.
After signing the register and receiving a blessing, the couple took their place just outside the great doors, side by side with their closest family. Guests poured out to greet them — hugs, congratulations, and sunshine all at once.

Group Shots and Golden Light at the Priory
After the ceremony, the sunshine held steady — perfect for a few relaxed portraits outside Bolton Priory. We gathered everyone for one big group shot, the towering stone and ancient trees behind them.
Guests mingled across the grass, champagne in hand, chatting and laughing in the warm afternoon air. The light was soft — just right for a few family pairings and easy, natural moments.
One of my favourites? The bride trying on the groom’s top hat, all smiles and mischief. The Priory made the perfect backdrop throughout — quiet, grand, full of story.
As I made my way to the next stop, I caught one last frame: their wedding car drifting past the Priory, the top hat in the back window catching the light.

Sunshine, Laughter, and a Walk Back to the Devonshire Arms
Back at the Devonshire Arms, I captured a few quiet moments indoors — glasses clinking, easy conversation, sunlight spilling in through the windows.
Then we stepped across the road, where the sunshine lit the trees and grass just right. A quick couple portrait, relaxed and natural. A jazz hands group photo added some fun, full of movement and laughter.
I caught the final frame as everyone made their way back — guests guided gently across the road, still smiling, the Devonshire Arms waiting in the soft light.

Details, Speeches, and Warm Welcomes Inside the Devonshire Arms
Inside the Devonshire’s elegant rooms, I caught a few quiet details before the buzz began — candlelight flickering beside the single-tier cake, topped with an L & A and finished with delicate icing roses to match her bouquet. Place settings carefully arranged, everything calm and ready.
A few relaxed shots of friends and family gathered around the tables, glasses in hand, smiling.
Then the couple made their entrance — greeted with cheers and happy faces — and slipped straight into speeches, full of laughter and warmth, as everyone settled in for the meal ahead.

Quiet Details Before the Meal — Champagne, Florals, and Thoughtful Touches
A few final details before the meal: the Laurent Perrier bottles chilled in their ice bucket, a quiet nod to celebration.
Outside, I stepped away briefly to capture the Devonshire through the trees — the hanging basket full of colour beneath the Devonshire Spa sign swaying gently in the breeze.
Back indoors, I paused by the table plan and gift table — little touches arranged with care, waiting patiently for the evening to unfold.

The Wedding Breakfast — Laughter, Conversations, and Quiet Joy
As the wedding breakfast began, the groom made his way around the room — stopping for hugs, laughter, and a few heartfelt words with friends and family.
Natural moments unfolded everywhere: guests chatting between bites of crème brûlée, sharing smiles across candlelit tables, and a young boy proudly serving treats to his family with a serious sense of duty.
Towards the end, I caught one last image of the cake — reflected in the grand mirrored panels behind it, with the soft blur of guests still gathered, still enjoying every moment.

Evening Light in the Courtyard — Quiet Moments and Yorkshire Views
Out in the rear courtyard, the evening settled in — dark blue skies above, and the rolling hills of the Wharfe Valley stretching softly into the distance.
Guests gathered beneath parasols and warm lights, unwinding with laughter and quiet conversation, as the calm of the Bolton Abbey Estate wrapped gently around them.

The Cake, the Dance, and a Perfect Evening Close
The cake stood waiting on a round table in the middle of the dancefloor — simple, elegant, and ready for that joyful moment.
Alison and Liam smiled wide as they made the cut, laughter echoing softly through the room. Then came the first dance — close, relaxed, and full of warmth — before guests stepped in to join, filling the floor with movement and celebration under the soft lights.

From the soft lace of the morning to that final, joy-filled dance, Alison & Liam’s day was full of warmth, laughter, and quiet beauty. I loved documenting their ceremony beneath the stone arches of Bolton Priory and the celebration that followed at The Devonshire Arms — moments big and small, all held gently in natural light.
