My Approach to Documentary Wedding Photography in Leeds & Yorkshire
The day, deconstructed
I’ve been photographing weddings across Leeds and Yorkshire since 2004. Over that time, what’s never changed is the reason I love it — real emotion, natural moments, and the energy of the day as it unfolds.
Below is a selection of real wedding moments showing how I document a wedding day — from morning preparations and ceremony through to portraits and evening celebrations. You’ll also find engagement sessions included, capturing quieter moments before the wedding day itself.
My approach is documentary and natural — I focus on real moments as they happen, with only gentle direction when it helps people feel relaxed and comfortable.
A complete wedding story — photographed naturally from start to finish across Leeds and Yorkshire.
Morning Preparations
Every wedding story begins here. The morning is often a mix of excitement, nerves, laughter, and quiet moments with family and friends as the day gradually starts to unfold.
I love photographing this part of a wedding because it feels so natural. Nothing needs directing or arranging. By blending into the background, I can capture the genuine moments, relationships, and atmosphere that make every wedding morning unique. These photographs form the opening chapter of the wedding story, documenting the day exactly as it happened.

Little Ones
From cheeky pageboys to shy flower girls, children often bring some of the most unexpected and joyful moments to a wedding day. I photograph them quietly and naturally, allowing them to forget the camera and simply enjoy being part of the day.
It’s not just about children being children — it’s about capturing the energy and personality they bring into the wider wedding story.

Arrivals & Ceremonies in All Seasons
From spring light to winter rain, every season shapes the way a wedding begins. Arrivals are full of anticipation — guests meeting, final preparations, and that shift as the day starts to unfold.
The ceremony is the heart of it all. I document it in a calm, natural way, focusing on real emotion, quiet reactions, and the connection between everyone there.

Confetti Moments
Confetti is often one of the most joyful and unplanned parts of the day — a burst of energy as guests gather close and celebrate the moment the couple step back out together.
I photograph it as it happens, focusing on movement, reaction, and those split-second expressions that can’t be repeated. It’s a brief moment, but often one of the most memorable.

Couple Portraits
Every couple is different, and I’m always sensitive to personality, pace, and what feels natural to you. My aim is never to create a version of yourselves for the camera, but to capture the connection, laughter, and quiet moments that already exist between you.
I work in a calm and relaxed way, with only gentle direction when needed. Some photographs happen naturally, others emerge in those brief pauses when couples stop thinking about the camera altogether. The result is a collection of portraits that feel authentic, personal, and true to the day itself.
